New Forums Forthcoming...

It would appear that the old PodcastPEN forums have finally gone away.

It will be a little bit of time, but I plan to set up a solution along the lines of what I set up for the Rolemonkeys a while back. I've got to relearn a few things, but we should have some additional flexibility as well.

We'll be sure to announce both here and on the show when I've got things set up.

Thanks!

AGC 82 July 19 2008 (Return of the RPG Buffet) (53:16)

With Mark Kinney and the RPG Buffet. Mark was on vacation, so the show was late, but he talks a little about a game he played called Liar's Dice. Then the RPG Buffet makes its triumphant return, discussing favorite games played through last year, then their experiment in a short Decipher Star Trek campaign. A little bit of feedback.

From Mags:
There's no recipe for the first segment of this episode, as Louis and I went to Louisville's North End Cafe for supper. However, we can certainly recommend online resources to check local restaurant reviews!

Zagat.com and DineSite.com both focus on high-end, world-class restaurants, so if you're looking for an upscale, classy dining experience, start here.

we8there.com focuses on the service aspect of restaurants. They operate on the belief that if the service sucks, it doesn't matter how good the food tastes. Reviews are submitted by the site's readers. Restaurants.com is a wonderfully comprehensive review site, with diners from all over the world share their dining experiences. And of course, don't forget to check your local newspaper or locally-based websites for reviews--our favorite for the Louisville area is LouisvilleHotbytes.com.

When planning your evening out, be sure to Google the names of the restaurants you're considering, because most wil have web sites with their menus posted (usually with pricing). Call to see if you need reservations, or at the very least call to see what the wait for a table is--you can save yourself a lot of headache that way!

An update to the information about the Decipher version of Star Trek: Decipher was forced to close down their RPG studio due to financial difficulties, and announced supplements for their Star Trek RPG were never published. On November 12, 2007, Decipher CEO Warren Holland confirmed that the company would no longer be releasing any material concerning the Star Trek RPG.

The Star Trek mini-campaign represented a departure from the Buffet's usual approach to RPGs--instead of a new game once a month, we devoted several months to one game. In keeping with this theme of trying something different, this month's featured supper recipe is...breakfast! For a change of pace, we had breakfast for supper one night. Here's two dishes--one a classic Southern breakfast dish, another my personal favorite--that are sure to satisfy your guests:

GARLIC AND CHEESE GRITS

* 6 cups water
* 2 teaspoons salt
* 1 1/2 cups grits
* 1/2 cup butter
* 3 eggs, well beaten
* 16 ounces shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
* 2 to 3 cloves garlic, finely minced
* cayenne pepper to taste
Preparation:
Bring water and salt to a rolling boil; gradually stir in grits with fork. Cook, stirring constantly, until all water is absorbed. Stir in butter a tablespoon at a time; stir in the beaten eggs, working quickly so eggs will not cook before thoroughly blended into the grits, then stir in the shredded cheese, garlic and a little cayenne pepper. Put into a greased 2 1/2-quart casserole. Bake at 350° for 1 hour, until grits feel firm to touch in center (grits will still be soft). Let stand 10 minutes and serve.

Slowcooker Breakfast Cobbler
This recipe is from Table Talk by Mimi Wilson and Mary Beth Lagerborg, authors of Once A Month Cooking.

* 4 medium-sized apples, peeled and sliced
* 1/4 cup honey
* 1 tsp cinnamon
* 2 tablespoons butter, melted
* 2 cups granola cereal
Preparation:
Place apples in slow cooker and mix in remaining ingredients. Cover and cook on low 7-9 hours (overnight) or on high 2-3 hours. Serve with milk. (Also goes great over hot biscuits or waffles!)
Yield: 4 servings

Technical Issues Delay AGC 82

My apologies for the further delay of Episode 82, but the home system (on which I'm trying to cobble together the file for AGC 82) is giving me fits. I was also unable to complete the episode over my vacation (editing together segments I had worked fine, but the cabin's acoustics made it impossible to record anything).

I expect to have things ironed out by Monday night, so look for the new episode then!

Update on Episode 82

I am going on vacation with my family this week, a week which would normally be a recording week. As I don't yet know what kind of (or how regular) internet access I shall have, we won't be recording an episode.

However... Thanks to Mags, I now have a backlog of RPG Buffet material, including their overview of favorite games and their six-month run of the Decipher Star Trek RPG. It might end up posting late, but I will definitely take the time this week to put it together (when I'm not busy writing Arcadian Gate and other stories, or, Ghu forbid, actually doing stuff with my family).

So look for AGC 82, The Return of the RPG Buffet, coming soon to a podcatcher near you!
